Welcome

The mission of Literacy Volunteers-West Hudson, Inc. is to promote increased basic literacy and conversational English skills to adults in Kearny, Harrison and East Newark, NJ. Student-centered instruction occurs through the effective use of volunteers and is offered to students free of charge. Since 1987 we have been serving the West Hudson community by recruiting and training volunteers to tutor adults. Over the past twenty years, we have served over 2,300 students. Over 53 percent of Kearny residents and over 75 percent of Harrison and East Newark residents speak a “language other than English” at home. There is a great need for our services in the West Hudson community.
